The term four-wheel drive describes truck-like vehicles that may allow the driver to manually switch (sometimes with an automatic option) between two-wheel drive mode (if available) for streets and four-wheel drive mode for low traction conditions such as ice, mud, snow, slippery surfaces, or loose gravel. All-wheel drive (AWD) is often used to describe a "full time" 4WD that may be used on dry pavement without damaging the differentials, although the term may be abused when marketing a vehicle. AWD can be used on dry pavement because it employs a center differential, which allows each axle to rotate at a different speed. ("Full-Time" 4WD can be disengaged and the center differential can be locked, essentially turning it into regular 4WD. On the other hand, AWD cannot be disengaged and differentials cannot be locked.) This eliminates driveline binding, wheel hop, and other driveline issues associated with the use of 4WD on dry pavement. For vehicles with more than four wheels, AWD means all wheels drive the vehicle, to varying degrees of engagement, while 4WD means only four of the wheels drive the vehicle continuously. For example, an AWD vehicle with six wheels is often described as a 6x6, the M35 2-1/2 ton cargo truck being one of the best-known examples (dual wheels on the rear axles are not counted as additional drive wheels). 2007 Toyota Tacoma The 2007 Toyota Tacoma is Toyota's entry in the pickup truck division of vehicles. The Tacoma comes in a number of trims and price ranges with a variety of options and configurations. The trims available are the Base, PreRunner, and X-Runner. All are available in rear-wheel and the Base trim comes in a four-wheel drive version as well. All are also available in a V-6 engine and all but the X-Runner come in an option for regular cab, access cab or double-cab. The prices range from just over $15,000 to just under $30,000 and the 2007 model features a number of small changes to the interior. 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser The 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser has managed to update some of its safety features for 2007 and a few options that are new. The large SUV underwent several cosmetic upgrades in 2006 and the basic design of the vehicle remains the same for 2007. The Toyota Land Cruiser is Toyota's most-expensive SUV model and is considered a large SUV even though it is slightly smaller than the Toyota Sequoia. The Land Cruiser comes in one model and trim which is a 4-door four wheel drive. Land Rover Group Limited Land Rover is best known for its impeccable 4-wheel drive capabilities. Although these vehicles are able to handle rough terrain, their interiors are still as refined as any other luxury car. It is a car with a powerful engine and sleek design. Some of the most-popular A4s have a convertible roof and the convertible version was redesigned for 2007. In 2007 the changes for the rest of the vehicles available for the A4 are very minor. 2007 BMW 3 Series The 2007 BMW 3 series is considered a kind of starter vehicle for anyone looking to get into the sports car world with their first BMW. The car comes in a 328 and 335 version. The series of vehicles has a history in the United States going back nearly ten years now. It is the best-selling series of cars for BMW in the United States. It comes with different options and different engines available depending on price. 2007 BMW 5 Series The 2007BWM 5 Series is BMW's luxury mid-sized sedan series of vehicles. The 5 series is comprised of three vehicles, the 525, 530 and 550. The 525 is at the lower end of the price spectrum of the three vehicles available in the 5 Series. The vehicle was made slightly larger with the 2004 model. There have been new options added for 2007 to things like the sound system and the safety options. 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid The 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid is now in its fourth year of production with the 2008 model. The vehicle was Ford's first venture in the area of hybrid vehicles. It is an SUV and promises a 50 percent fuel usage improvement when the vehicle is driven in a city. The vehicles is known for its excellent handling although the hybrid does occasionally suffer from a weaker engine when driving up hill. 2007 Ford Expedition For 2007 Ford has redesigned and remodeled the full-sized SUV known as the Ford Expedition. In order to compete with the larger vehicles produced my other manufacturers, such as the Suburban, Ford has now released the Expedition with an extended wheelbase called the EL. It also has a new transmission for 2007. The Expedition can seat up to nine people. 2008 Ford Taurus X For 2008 Ford is hoping that by changing the names of some of its slower-selling vehicles that it will help improve sales. So, for 2008, the Ford Freestyle Wagon is now known as the Ford Taurus X. For 2008 there is a new grille for the vehicle, featuring Ford's new appearance and updated interiors and a more powerful engine. Beyond that, the Ford Taurus X is similar to the Freestyle.
